FDLE arrests commissioner's ex-husband over false campaign reports

William Sherwood accused of stealing about $7K

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Hollywood Commissioner Linda Sherwood told detectives her ex-husband took about $7,000 from her campaign account without her knowledge. 

After the longtime commissioner reported the theft to the Hollywood Police Department in April, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated William Sherwood, 73.

Investigators found that while he served as her campaign treasurer, he had failed to report most of the cash withdrawals in his monthly campaign treasurer reports.

The withdrawals happened last year in February and March, according to the FDLE.  

FDLE agents arrested William Sherwood on Thursday. He faces one count of grand theft and two counts of falsifying records related to the submission of false campaign treasurer reports.

Linda Sherwood has been representing the south-central neighborhoods of the city's district 6 since 2008.
