KEY WEST, Fla. – A Florida Keys man accused of stealing a car from his employer after being fired from his job was arrested in North Carolina while driving the stolen car, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Keith Bradshaw, 48, of Stock Island, was fired from his job at a jewelry store in Key West after his employer confronted him about missing jewelry.

Herrin said the employer gave Bradshaw a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt to drive as part of his job and made numerous attempts to get it back after Bradshaw was fired, but he was unsuccessful. He reported it stolen, and a warrant was issued for Bradshaw's arrest.

The car was stopped Dec. 27 in Morganton, North Carolina. Bradshaw was behind the wheel, Herrin said.

Another license plate had been attached to the car, but a check of the vehicle identification number revealed that it had been reported stolen, Herrin said.

The car was returned to its owner.

Bradshaw was arrested and remained in a North Carolina jail while waiting to return to Florida to face a grand theft charge. He was transferred to a Florida Keys jail Wednesday.
