Former Miami Edison High School teacher accused of having sexual relations with student

Napolean Joseph, 37, fired by Miami-Dade County Public School District

MIAMI – A former teacher and head football coach at Miami Edison High School was arrested Monday for having sexual relations with a student, authorities said.

According to an arrest report, the victim performed oral sex twice on Napolean Joseph, 37, in his classroom between November 2016 and last month when she was 17 years old. She has since turned 18.

Police said the victim admitted to sending explicit photos of herself to Joseph's cellphone.

Joseph, who was still in his probationary period as a teacher, was fired last month by the Miami-Dade County Public School District after the student came forward about the allegations to a school counselor.

Joseph had worked at the school for 14 years as a paraprofessional and football coach, but was in the middle of his first year as a teacher.

The girl was not a student in Joseph's class, school officials said.

Joseph was arrested by Miami-Dade Schools police Monday after going to its headquarters to speak with detectives.

He faces one count of engaging in a sexual act with a familial child.

According to his Facebook page, Joseph is married and has three young children.

He posted bond Tuesday afternoon and is expected to be released from jail sometime in the evening.
