Fort Lauderdale burglary suspect arrested after chase, crash in Opa-locka

Alfonzo Green accused of robbing business before pursuit began

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Fort Lauderdale burglary suspect was arrested Sunday afternoon after leading authorities on a 15-mile chase that ended in Opa-locka.

Fort Lauderdale police were called to the 2100 block of Southwest 19th Avenue in reference to a possible burglary at a business and spotted a suspicious vehicle, Detective Tracy Figone said.

When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the white van, which was driven by Alfonzo Green, 49, fled the area, Figone said.

The chase, which involved the Broward Sheriff's Office, Miami Gardens police and Opa-locka police, came to an end when Green crashed into a silver Nissan, driven by Johanni Cadet, on Northwest 135th Street.

"Thank God I'm alive," Cadet told Local 10 News.

Police eventually caught up with Green and used a Taser gun to take him down.

Green was taken into custody on charges that include fleeing and eluding, resisting arrest without violence and aggravated assault.

He appeared in court Monday, where he was ordered held in lieu of a $23,500 bond.

Miami-Dade County Judge Mindy Glazer ruled that Green will be placed on house arrest if he bails out of jail.
