Gunman chases victim during midday robbery in Coral Gables

Armed robber targets Coral Gables resident in front of home

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After making a stop at the bank, Coral Gables detectives said a man parked his Jaguar in front of his home's driveway. He was holding a bag with jewelry.

The man stepped out of the Jaguar about 11:50 a.m. in the area of Ingram Highway and Douglas Road near Coconut Grove. When a four-door BMW that he didn't recognize parked in front of his driveway, he was in fear.

A robber wielding a hand gun jumped out of the white BMW and chased him when he started running. The victim fell down and suffered a foot injury. The robber swiped the bag and got away in the BMW.

Sgt. Tom Salcedo was asking Coral Gables residents to be aware of their surroundings at all times and make it a habit to make sure that nobody is following them.

"If you suspect somebody followed you, just go around the block a couple of times," Salcedo said. "Go to your near police department. Don't go straight home."

Officer Kelly Denham released an image from surveillance video on Tuesday. It showed the armed suspect was wearing dreadlocks in a bun and black slide sandals during the time of the Saturday robbery.

Detectives believe the robber is in his late teens or early 20s, and they were asking anyone with information to call 305-442-1600 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
