Laura Bauler accused of attacking ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend in Islamorada

ISLAMORADA, Fla. – Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 51-year-old woman accused of kidnapping and attacking a romantic rival last month in the Florida Keys.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said Laura Bauler threatened her ex-boyfriend's new girlfriend with a knife, gagged her with a kitchen towel and tied a rope around her neck before taking her to the Key Lantern Motel.

Once inside the motel room, Bauler forced the woman into a closet and later a bathtub, ordering her to take off her clothes and making her walk outside naked, Herrin said.

The victim tried to run away, but Bauler caught up with her and tackled her to the ground, Herrin said.

A couple who lived next door witnessed the women fighting on the ground and intervened, pulling Bauler off the naked woman.

The victim told deputies that she believes Bauler attacked her because she lives with Bauler's ex-boyfriend.

Bauler fled the scene, she didn't get away for long. A warrant was issued for Bauler's arrest, and deputies found her Saturday. She faces charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, battery, kidnapping and burglary.
