Man accused of shooting ex-girlfriend's brother in stomach

Jorge Ramos, 30, shoots man during dispute with children's mother, police say

MIAMI ā€“ A man was arrested over the weekend in the February shooting of his ex-girlfriend's brother, authorities said.

According to an arrest warrant, Jorge Ramos, 30, went to his ex-girlfriend's home on Feb. 10 in an attempt to convince her to come home with him.

Police said Ramos has three children with Denise Duanes, and Duanes has one other child from a previous relationship.

Duanes told detectives that she had been dating Ramos on and off for about six years and ended their relationship in January.

She said she had moved in with her parents after the break up and said Ramos got angry when she refused to leave with him.

According to the warrant, Ramos grabbed two of his children who were standing in the doorway of the home and attempted to leave with them, but Duanes stopped him.

Police said Ramos "pushed and shoved" Duanes as she walked back toward her home with her children.

The victim, Edwin Rodriguez, heard his sister and Ramos arguing and went outside to confront Ramos, the warrant said.

Detectives said Ramos pulled out a handgun and shot Rodriguez in the lower abdomen before fleeing from the scene.

Rodriguez was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center, where doctors told him that he had a ruptured colon and grazed kidney.

Police said both Duanes and Rodriguez identified Ramos in a photograph.

He was arrested Saturday on an attempted murder charge.
