Gerlo Ulysse is accused of ambushing and attacking a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputy in a Lake Worth alley.

LAKE WORTH, Fla. – A 27-year-old man accused of ambushing and attacking a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office deputy in an alley has been arrested.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said in a news release that Gerlo Ulysse was arrested Tuesday on a charge of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer with a deadly weapon.

A deputy was conducting business in an alley behind 1011 Seventh Ave. S. early Sunday when he was flagged down by a man deputies later identified as Ulysse.

When the deputy approached the man, the deputy was ambushed and struck on the right side of his face with a blunt object determined to be a shank or nail.

The deputy was taken to a hospital, treated and released.

Jail records show that Ulysse also faces a charge of possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon.

He was expected to appear in court Wednesday.
