Man arrested in hit-and-run crash that killed bicyclist

Samuel Love, 21, got out of car, but failed to help victim, police say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – An arrest has been made after a bicyclist was struck and killed by a car this week in southwest Miami-Dade.

Police said a tip led them to the home of Samuel Jay Love, 21.

According to an arrest report, the victim, Gary King, 56, was riding south on Southwest 102nd Avenue and 171st Street about 1 a.m. Wednesday, when he was struck by a silver Mercury Mountaineer, driven by Love.

Police said Love got out of the car to check on King, but then ran back to his vehicle and drove away.

King was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives said they questioned Love and other people inside his home about the crash.

They said his girlfriend said Love called her and texted her the night of the crash, and asked her to go to the crash scene to "check it out."

Love told detectives that he wanted to cooperate in the investigation, and he was taken to Miami-Dade police headquarters, where he was read his miranda rights, the report said.

Love declined to provide a statement to an investigator.

He faces one count of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death.
