Man fatally shot inside car in northwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was fatally shot Tuesday morning in northwest Miami-Dade, authorities said.

The shooting was reported at about 1 a.m. in the area of Northwest 119th Street and 22nd Avenue.

Miami-Dade police said a passerby called 911 and said that a man had been shot inside his vehicle.

The victim, identified as Zolonzo K. Smith, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Relatives told Local 10 News reporter Andrew Perez that Smith was killed while he was stopped at a red light.

"I want information. I need answers. I need closure," the victim's brother, Zorenzo Smith, said.

A motive for the shooting is unknown.

"It's a cowardly act," the victim's cousin, Mary Bryant, said. "It is a cowardly act to shoot someone like that and then to walk away. We're not sure how you could even sleep with yourself to do something like this."

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Adam Gilliland at 305-471-2400 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
