MIAMI – A man accused in the shooting ambush of two undercover Miami-Dade police detectives appeared in court Wednesday and was formally charged in the shooting.
Damian Thompson, 19, is charged with two counts of first-degree attempted murder, two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and two counts of resisting arrest.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Authorities said detectives Terence White and Charles Woods were ambushed by four people March 27 while they were sitting in an unmarked vehicle while conducting surveillance at an apartment complex in the 1900 block of Northwest 59th Street.
The detectives were working a multi-agency operation on gang activity at the time, police said.
The wounded officers were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in the bed of a pickup truck and were able to limp inside with the help of their colleagues. They have since been released from the hospital.
Thompson was arrested days after the shooting at a Hyatt Place on LeJeune Road after Crime Stoppers received several tips linking Thompson to the shooting.
Thompson's mother told Local 10 News that her son wasn't involved in the shooting because he was in a recording studio at the time.
Thompson's next court hearing is scheduled for June 8.
