Man injured in shooting near Cocowalk

Witnesses say shooting stemmed from argument outside Starbucks

MIAMI – A man was shot Thursday night near Cocowalk in Coconut Grove, according to Miami police.

Police said an argument took place at about 9:10 p.m. near the popular outdoor mall.

The man was found shot in the 2700 block of McFarlane Road.

"I just heard a noise and looked back behind me, and saw this guy shooting another guy," Diego Gonzalez, who witnessed the shooting, said. "The guy was running and he was behind shooting the guy."

Witnesses said the shooting stemmed from an argument that started outside a Starbucks. Detectives believe that the victim who was injured was an innocent bystander.

"Basically, we were eating dinner and I heard three loud pops. It was insane," one witness, Marcel Portney, said. "All of a sudden, you just see, like, people sprinting."

Witnesses said five to six were involved in the scuffle. Once one man took off running toward McFarlane Road, another allegedly pulled out a gun and that's when shots were fired.

"The Grove is normally really, really just a safe and just a great place to be," Portney said.

The victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police said they do not have a description of the shooter.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
