Customer killed during robbery at Miami pawn shop

Victim pronounced dead at scene

MIAMI – A man was killed Thursday during a robbery at a pawn shop in Miami, police said.

The incident was reported about 1:30 p.m. at Value Joyeria y Prestamos, 717 SW 17th Ave.

Miami police said two men stormed into the pawn shop, one of them pointing a gun at employees and customers while the other smashed the glass cases to get to the jewelry.

At some point during the robbery, the gunman opened fire, killing a customer. Police said it isn't clear what prompted the shooting.

Police said the victim was a man in his 60s who was at the pawn shop with a friend. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe a third man was waiting outside in a getaway vehicle, which was a red SUV. Police said all three fled north on Southwest 17th Avenue and haven't been seen since.
