Man pleads guilty in shooting of Miami-Dade corrections officer

Patrick Sullivan accused of shooting officer outside Miami home for gold chain

MIAMI – A man accused of shooting a Miami-Dade corrections officer in 2014 for his gold chain pleaded guilty to multiple charges Wednesday.

Patrick Sullivan pleaded guilty to one count of robbery with a firearm and one count of attempted murder with aggravated battery.

Police said another man, Roderick Everett, drove the getaway car after Sullivan shot Juan Guellmes outside his home in Miami on Aug. 29, 2014.

Police said Sullivan ripped Guellmes' gold chain from his neck and shot him as Guellmes tried to fight him off.

Guellmes underwent 10 surgeries since the shooting.

He was present during Sullivan's hearing Wednesday, but did not speak.

Sullivan is expected to be sentenced Aug. 5.

He faces a minimum of 25 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison.
