Man fatally shot after fight in Oakland Park, deputies say

Victim taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – A man was shot Wednesday night in Oakland Park after a fight involving multiple people, according to the Broward Sheriff's Office. 

The victim was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead overnight.

The victim was identified Thursday as Michael Jean Charles, 21, of Fort Lauderdale.

Witnesses said there was more than one shooter and at least one of the shooters remained at the scene when deputies arrived, according to a media release. 

Deputies said the accused shooter is cooperating with the investigation.

Several people were detained pending an investigation, but no arrests have been announced.
