Mercy Hospital MRI technician arrested, accused of stealing patient's credit card

Bosco Fernandez surrenders to Coral Gables police

CORAL GABLES, Fla. ā€“ An employee at Mercy Hospital was arrested Tuesday after turning himself in to police.

Bosco Fernandez, an MRI technician at the Miami hospital, is accused of stealing a patient's credit card to purchase cigarettes and a bottle of Gatorade.

Police said Fernandez turned himself in Tuesday at the Coral Gables Police Department on the advice of his attorney.

Surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News showed Fernandez using a credit card to purchase the items.

"I guarantee you that I didn't steal no one's credit card," Fernandez said last month in an interview with Local 10.

Fernandez said someone was trying to set him up after Local 10 News reporter Todd Tongen showed him the surveillance video. He said the credit card was "probably" his, but he was unable to provide a valid receipt.

Mercy Hospital issued a statement last month calling the "safety and security of its patients a top priority." The statement said hospital officials were working with police.

Fernandez faces charges of petit theft, uttering a forged instrument and fraudulent use of a credit card.

"I think it was stupid what he did," victim Maria Mercedes Fernandez told Tongen before the arrest.
