Miami-Dade police officer has purse, badge, gun stolen behind Fontainebleau

Officer chases after thief on beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A Miami-Dade officer had her purse stolen Sunday morning while watching the sunrise behind the Fontainebleau, Miami Beach police said.

The officer's purse contained her badge, personal gun and a magazine.

The officer had set her purse on the sand on the beach near 44th Street before someone grabbed it, police said.

A witness told the victim what happened, police said, and although she chased the thief, she wasn't able to catch him.

The officer's personal gun, police badge, Miami-Dade police identification card and a magazine round were inside the purse, along with her keys, driver's license, Social Security card and cellphone.

Police are searching for a man between 25 and 30 years old, about 150 pounds, and between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall with brown hair.
