KEY LARGO, Fla. – A Miami Gardens man was arrested Wednesday in the Florida Keys after deputies said he endangered the lives of a 7-month-old boy and the baby's mother.

Tevin Gamble, 23, was driving through the upper Keys with the baby and the baby's mother when he got into an argument with the mother, prompting him to turn the car around with the intention of returning home, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

The woman called 911 to report that Gamble was speeding and driving recklessly. She said Gamble kept turning off the car's lights to avoid being seen by deputies.

Herrin said Gamble eventually pulled over in a parking lot near mile marker 97, where deputies met with the mother. She said Gamble tried to take the baby in his car seat, but she fought to stop him.

The woman told deputies that Gamble shook the car seat multiple times with the baby in it while trying to get it out of the car. She said he wasn't successful and ran away.

Deputies found Gamble near mile marker 102 in Key Largo. Herrin said he had changed his clothes in an effort to avoid being caught.

Gamble faces a felony charge of child abuse and a misdemeanor charge of obstruction by disguise.

The baby was checked by paramedics to make sure that he wasn't injured. Herrin said he appeared to be OK.
