Miami police said Barberi burglarized the Selva Negra Restaurant on West Flagler Street multiple times while the restaurant was closed. The thefts were captured on surveillance video.
The owner of the restaurant told police that the same man was seen on surveillance video breaking into the freezer, getting away with meat, poultry and seafood.
In each burglary, police said, the man was seen wearing a baseball cap, had a black Nike backpack and was riding a white bicycle.
Officers said they spotted a man matching that description leaving the area and tried to stop him, but he ran away. Officers caught up with the man, later identified by police as Barberi, and took him into custody.
According to a police report, Barberi confessed to burglarizing the restaurant about five or six times because he needed food.
