The victim told police that he could see a black male inside his residence on his home-surveillance system.

The police department's Crime Suppression team, Burglary Suppression team and K-9 unit went to the home while the suspect, Calvin Whiting, 24, was still inside, Conwell said.

Conwell said Whiting initially refused orders to come outside, but he was eventually taken into custody with the help of a K-9.

Conwell said Whiting suffered minor lacerations due to a K-9 bite and was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital for treatment.

Whiting faces a burglary charge.
