Pembroke Pines woman arrested after burning child's chest with hot iron, police say

Burning served as punishment for forgetting paperwork at school, police say

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – A 32-year-old Pembroke Pines woman was arrested Monday after police said she burned a 9-year-old boy's chest with a hot iron after he forgot paperwork at school.

Tamecha Jean was arrested on a charge of aggravated child abuse.

She appeared in bond court Tuesday, where a judge allowed her to be released on house arrest. She is not allowed to have any contact with her children.

Police said they got a tip on an abuse hotline at about 4 p.m. Monday pertaining to the 9-year-old.

Pembroke Pines police, along with deputies from the Broward Sheriff's Office, investigated and said that Jean burned the child's chest with a hot iron because the child forgot paperwork at school, which "infuriated the suspect since she anticipated its return," Sgt. Adam Feiner said in a news release.

Members of BSO's Child Protective Investigative Section assumed responsibility and care for the child and his two siblings.

"They put the child in their police car and took  him away," neighbor Barbara Anderson said. "No matter how angry you get, you got to control your emotions with your children."

Anderson said she never suspected any kind of abuse was going on inside Jean's home.
