Police search for gunman after 2 men shot in northwest Miami-Dade

Assistant state attorney vows to shut down bar after shooting

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police are investigating a shooting that left two men hospitalized.

The shooting was reported just before 2 a.m. Monday near Northwest 46th Street and Northwest 29th Avenue, outside V's Social Club.

Miami-Dade police Detective Alvaro Zabaleta said the gunman or gunmen approached the two men who were sitting in a car and opened fire. One man was shot in the leg, while the other was grazed by a bullet in the shoulder.

Two other vehicles were also struck by gunfire.

"I heard this rapid fire from both sides," Lynnward McClyde, who witnessed the shooting, said. "I wasn't really scared, because I knew what to do. I hit the deck. That's my first instinct."

Both men were taken to area hospitals, where they were in stable condition.

The gunman or gunmen took off in an unknown direction.

"I hope they hurry up and catch him, you know, because there's too much of this going on, too much violence," Lester Person, whose friend's vehicle was damaged in the shooting, said. "I'm just happy to know that she wasn't in the car and nothing happened to her."

Assistant State Attorney Santiago Aroca said the incident began with a fight inside the bar and the violence spilled into the streets.

He said the bar did not have a license to sell alcohol.

Aroca said he will start filing paperwork to get the bar closed.

"I hope they don't because, you know, it's a nice club, but you got people like that everywhere," Person said.

The bar owner declined to comment about the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
