Pompano Beach teen drives stolen BMW to Keys, arrested on grand theft charge

Vehicle taken in West Palm Beach, found in Keys

KEY LARGO, Fla. – An 18-year-old Pompano Beach man was arrested Friday after he drove a BMW, which was stolen in West Palm Beach, to the Florida Keys, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

The silver 2014 BMW entered Monroe County at about 6 p.m., sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.

Sheriff's dispatchers received notification that the vehicle was in the area and a notice to be on the lookout for it was issued to all Monroe County deputies.

Deputy Jason Farr spotted the southbound vehicle at mile marker 98.

At the time, the vehicle was turning into a Domino's parking lot, Herrin said.

Farr pulled in behind it and turned on his lights and siren, but the driver would not stop, Herrin said.

Instead, the BMW turned off on a side road and backed out onto northbound U.S. Highway 1, Herrin said. That's where the driver collided with a Mercedes-Benz van.

The driver, identified as Alexander Mors, was taken into custody.

A man who was in the vehicle with Mors told deputies that Mors has picked him up earlier in the day and told him they were going to a graduation party in the Keys, Herrin said.

The man went on to say that he assumed the vehicle was rented and that he told Mors to pull over, but he refused to listen.

Mors was arrested on charges of grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding a law enforcement officer and driving without a valid driver's license.
