FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy remains in juvenile detention as prosecutors decide whether to file charges against him for allegedly trying to run over a Broward sheriff's deputy.
"And what are you waiting on to make that decision?" Judge Stacy Ross asked prosecutors on Friday.
Prosecutors have yet to decide whether to charge Dalvin Williams as an adult or whether to file charges against him at all.
Authorities said a deputy shot Williams earlier this month on Hammondville Road in Pompano Beach after he tried to run over another deputy.
Sheriff Scott Israel said Williams was behind the wheel of a stolen car and refused to pull over for deputies.
Williams was shot in the shoulder while allegedly trying to run over the deputy who tried to get him to stop.
A wounded Williams then ditched the car and tried running away before he was caught, deputies said.
Williams faces charges of fleeing and eluding police and failure to obey an order to stop.
The state was given 21 days to decide whether or not it would file to have his case moved to adult court.
The decision is still up in the air.
Williams is scheduled to be released from juvenile detention on Monday, when the state's 21 days are up.
He is expected to be taken to jail if the state decides to charge him as an adult before Monday.
