Police search for 2 truck thieves in Pembroke Pines

Thieves stole truck in Hollywood before crashing, police say

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Police began a search early Friday morning for two people suspected of stealing a truck and crashing in Pembroke Pines.

Officers said the pair stole a blue, Ford F-150 in Hollywood before slamming into a car along Southwest Eighth Street and Southwest 68th Terrace. The impact of the crash pushed the car into a nearby fence.

Witnesses told the owner of the damaged car that they saw the two thieves hop out of the truck and run in different directions.

"That guy would have drove into my house, you know, if the car wasn't there," Alberto Rios said.

Charlie Mercy, the owner of the truck, said it took him just seconds to call police after his vehicle was stolen.

"They got in, they jimmied something and away they went," Mercy said.

Mercy was on the phone with police as the thieves drove away in his truck.

Police set up a perimeter in the area and used a helicopter to search for the thieves.
