Driver of stolen car taken into custody; driver of other car dies inside vehicle

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. ā€“ One person is dead and another person was taken into custody after a crash involving a stolen car in northwest Miami-Dade County.

Miami-Dade police said a stolen silver Acura was speeding southbound on Northwest 22nd Avenue when it crashed into another vehicle at Northwest 103rd Street late Monday night.

The victim's vehicle struck a nearby business and caught fire. The driver wasn't able to get out and died inside the vehicle.

King Smith said he was just getting off work when the crash happened and went running over to help.

"I reached in (and) tried to wake the guy up that was in the Acura, (but I) couldn't get him out of the car," he said.Ā

Smith, who tried to help both drivers, said the fire was just too much to get to the person who was trapped inside the burning car.

"There was no way anybody could have survived that," Smith said.

Investigators said the man who crashed into the victim's vehicle had stolen the Acura from Pembroke Pines.
