Police said the victim, identified as Genrikh Blinster, 68, picked up a man in the 200 block of Northwest Seventh Street just before 5:50 p.m. and the man asked to be driven to Northwest 31st Avenue and 19th Street.

But the man changed his mind after they arrived and told Blinster to take him to the 600 block of Northwest Second Avenue, authorities said.

Police said the thief, who was sitting in the right side of the back seat, reached over and grabbed the victim's cellphone as they arrived at the second location and snatched an undisclosed amount of cash from Blinster's shirt pocket.

Police said a struggle ensued and the robber fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Erik Kirtman at 954-828-6070 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
