MIAMI – A suspended Opa-locka police officer accused of attacking his pregnant girlfriend was released from jail Monday afternoon on a $3,500 bond.
Dennis Horn, 30, seemed to give up hope that he would be reinstated to his job during a court appearance earlier in the day.
"Are you working at all, now? Doing anything?" Miami-Dade County Judge Mindy Glazer asked Horn.
"I'm sure I'll be terminated this morning. I had a job (with Opa-locka police) until the arrest," Horn said.
Horn was ordered to stay at least 500 feet away from his girlfriend, who is two months pregnant, and to have no direct contact with her via phone, another person or on social media.
Horn was arrested Saturday night on an aggravated battery charge after he allegedly verbally and physically attacked his girlfriend.
According to an arrest report, Horn and his girlfriend got into a fight after a visit from another Opa-locka police officer while Horn was working an off-duty detail.
During the visit, Horn's girlfriend got into the officer's vehicle, where they had a brief conversation about her delivering a package to UPS for him, the report said. The officer then gave the girlfriend a brown box to drop off at UPS.
After the visit, the couple got into a verbal altercation in the parking lot of their Opa-locka home.
Horn's girlfriend told police that the altercation started because Horn is "insecure" and didn't want her speaking to another man.
Horn then grabbed his girlfriend by both arms, "jacked her up" against the interior portion of the passenger side door and called her a "b---- and hoe," the report said.
The woman called police when she got out of the vehicle.
Horn's girlfriend told police that the pair have been together for four months.
Horn is a road patrol officer who is currently suspended from the Opa-locka Police Department due to another criminal investigation.
