Teen boy's shooting in Miami Gardens gang-related, police say

17-year-old taken to Ryder Trauma with non-life-threatening injuries

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A 17-year-old boy was shot Saturday during a gang-related drive-by shooting in Miami Gardens, police said.

The shooting took place at 6:14 p.m. in the 2700 block of Northwest 173rd Terrace, Miami Gardens police said. 

The victim was not at the scene when officers arrived, police said. 

Instead, the victim was taken via private vehicle to Jackson North Hospital and was later medically transported to Ryder Trauma Center. 

His wounds are not life-threatening, police said.   

Witnesses told police the teen was part of a group who gathered outside when several people began shooting from a Chevrolet Impala that drove by. 

The shooting appears to be gang-related, police said.  

A few hours before the shooting took place, three teens were shot in Miami Gardens near 24th Avenue and West Bunche Park Drive. 

In that incident, a 17-year-old boy and two 16-year-old boys were take to area hospitals, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
