Vehicle crashes into motorcycle while fleeing from police in Sunrise, authorities say

Motorcyclist taken to hospital with leg injury

SUNRISE, Fla. – A stolen white vehicle crashed into a motorcycle Monday night while fleeing from police in Sunrise, authorities said.

The crash was reported in the area of Hiatus Road and Oakland Park Boulevard.

Sunrise police said an officer tried to pull over the stolen car, but the driver fled and crashed into the motorcycle.

Police said the officer did not chase the vehicle.

Witnesses said the driver ran a red light right before the accident.

"I was in the gas station, and I hear a lot of sirens coming out, and it was like crazy," Alexandra Lazo said. "A lot of police cars coming, and then also one ambulance and then also two fire trucks was there."

Video taken at the scene shows a Jeep that appeared to also be involved in the crash. Lazo said a black car was also struck, but the driver was not injured and left shortly after police arrived.

Police said the motorcyclist was taken to a hospital to be treated for a leg injury.

"It's very sad, especially (for) the fellow from the motorcycle," Lazo said. "Like, if he didn't have a helmet and he didn't have no protection, or stuff like that. And people are driving home to see their families and everything, and now they're involved in something like that -- it's very sad to see what happened."

Police said three men fled from the vehicle and are being searched for by authorities.

Anyone with information about their identities or whereabouts is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
