Alexander Acosta faces charges of DUI manslaughter, vehicular homicide

Alexander Acosta was arrested on DUI charges in connection with the March 18 crash that killed Carmen Martinez.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A West Palm Beach man was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of driving under the influence in connection with a March crash that killed a Hialeah woman.

Alexander Acosta, 22, faces charges of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide.

According to a Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office report, Acosta was driving in the 7700 block of Forest Hill Boulevard on March 18 when his Hyundai rear-ended a Mitsubishi. 

The driver of the Mitsubishi, identified as Carmen Martinez, 58, of Hialeah, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies said Acosta was speeding and possibly racing with another vehicle at the time of the crash.

According to the report, Acosta said he had come from a party at a friend's house, where he had two cups of whiskey and cranberry juice.
