Weston podiatrist loses bid to be released from jail while awaiting sentencing

Dr. Augustine Bollo found guilty of molesting babysitter in 2012

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Broward County judge ruled Tuesday that a Weston podiatrist who was found guilty of molesting his family's babysitter in 2012 should remain in jail while he awaits sentencing.

Judge Martin Bidwill denied a request by Dr. Augustine Bollo to be released on bond.

Bollo was convicted of lewd and lascivious molestation on June 17. A jury concluded that Bollo molested a 15-year-old girl, whom he hired to babysit his four children, and then offered to pay her $200 to keep quiet.

During a hearing last week, the victim testified that Bollo shouldn't be allowed out of jail, saying his family wouldn't be safe.

Bidwill wrote in his ruling that Bollo is a danger to the community and could be a flight risk if he were released.

Bollo was found guilty after a mistrial was declared in his first trial earlier this year.

During his retrial, Bollo denied that the girl ever touched his penis.

"It never happened," he testified.

Bollo is seeking a new trial.
