Woman, 66, attacked by man while making deposit at ATM in Pompano Beach

Authorities say woman twisted attacker's genitals in attempt to break free

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who attacked a 66-year-old Boca Raton woman while she was making a deposit at an ATM in Pompano Beach.

The crime was reported May 1 at a Wells Fargo branch on Sample Road.

BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter said the man appeared to be using the ATM next to the woman, but just before she deposited her cash, he reached over and snatched several hundred dollars from her hand.

Surveillance video released Friday showed the woman struggling with the man.

According to an incident report, the woman said she grabbed the man's genitals and twisted them in order to break free.

"He fled the scene and then decided to come back and start attacking her," Carter said.

Carter said the man punched the woman several times in the face and grabbed her watch, which fell to the ground during the struggle. She said the man got away in a dark-colored four-door Toyota.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
