Woman threatens daycare workers with machete while trying to remove children, police say

Incident reported Wednesday at Early Learning Center in Sunrise

SUNRISE, Fla. – A woman was arrested Wednesday morning after she tried to remove children she did not have custody of from a daycare in Sunrise, authorities said.

The incident was reported at the Early Learning Center at 10092 W. Oakland Park Blvd.

Sunrise police said the woman threatened workers with a machete and left before injuring someone.

The Broward Sheriff's Office was alerted about the woman and spotted her in Deerfield Beach, where she fled from deputies, authorities said.

Deputies said the woman stopped just north of Commercial Boulevard in the southbound lanes of Interstate 95, but refused to get out of the vehicle.

Deputies said they were forced to break the car window to remove her.

One deputy suffered minor cuts in the process of apprehending the woman.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, faces charges of fleeing and eluding police.
