MIAMI -

A rally to end the violence was held Friday afternoon.

A crowd gathered at the corner of Northwest 22nd Avenue and 79th Street to take part in a 7-mile walk to raise awareness about a string of shootings in the area.

"We cannot let innocent women, children and young men be gunned down by AK-47s," said community activist Charles Jackson.

Children held signs calling for peace and they marched alongside a casket to Soar Park, where last month 17-year-old Keimouria Gardner and Herchel Belizaire were killed by stray bullets.

"This is the world we live in today and I never thought in a million years that I would myself in this position, but I'm here," said Gardner's stepmother.

Also taking part in the march was Latrice Anderson. She was still mourning her mother when she passed out fliers asking for help in her mother's death.

Linda Ann Grant was shot dead outside a food market in Liberty City on Monday.

"I'm here today for her," Anderson said.

Anyone with information on either shooting is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
