Cruise ship alters course to provide treatment to passenger

Majesty of the Seas passenger required medical treatment for head injury

MIAMI – A Royal Caribbean cruise ship had to alter course and make an unplanned stop in Miami when a passenger on board required emergency medical treatment.

The 32-year-old man from Sweden suffered a head injury Tuesday while on board the Majesty of the Seas. He was provided with medical treatment on the ship, but Wednesday it was determined he would need additional medical attention.

The ship altered course and sailed to the closest port of call at PortMiami. The guest was loaded onto a fire-rescue boat before being brought to shore.

The four-night cruise originally left from Miami on Monday. Its ports of call include Nassau and CocoCay, Bahamas and Key West.

Thursday's arrival in Key West was scheduled to be delayed three hours as a result of the change of course.
