Custom Miami Heat car stolen

Crown Victoria stolen from outside Hollywood apartment

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – While most South Florida basketball fans had their eyes on the Miami Heat's repeat championship run, some thieves had their eyes on Michael Murdock's custom Miami Heat car.

His 1992, custom-painted red Crown Victoria features a rendering of the Heat's "Big Three" in a blaze of flames. It has after-market rims, low-profile tires and a big Heat logo on the hood.

"It means a lot. I'm a big Miami Heat fan," Murdock told Local 10's Roger Lohse. "I mean, I did it for a reason. I love LeBron, I love Wade -- I love all of them. I'm a fan since the Rony Seikaly days."

Murdock had his prize car painted two years ago during LeBron James' first season with the team. Local 10 featured the vehicle in a story about the Heat hysteria that was taking over South Florida at the time.

But sometime overnight Sunday, some cold-hearted crook stole his prized possession from its parking spot right in front of his apartment in the 900 block of North 24th Avenue. It happened just a few days after the Heat swept the Bucks and advanced to round two of the NBA playoffs.

"Exactly. I'm saying to myself, they done swept the Bucks, now they want to steal my car? Are you serious?" he said.

"What was your reaction when you walked out of your house in the morning and your car was gone?" asked Lohse.

"I cried," Murdock said.

Murdock filed a police report, but this case shouldn't be too hard to crack. The car is pretty unique and will definitely catch your eye in traffic. Murdock said he can't drive anywhere without Heat fans stopping him to take a picture of it.

"They're stupid, I mean they ain't a Heat fan. I mean they're more like a Bulls fan or some other fan but they ain't really from Miami. If you were a true Heat fan you wouldn't do that kind of stuff," he added.

"Could it have been a Buck's fan?" Lohse asked.

"It could have been a Knicks. It might be like that," he said with a laugh.

All kidding aside, Murdock needs that car to get to work. He's hopeful his fellow Heat fans out there will keep their eyes peeled.

"If you see my car, please bring it back. It means a lot to me. That's my pride and joy," he said.

Murdock said if his car is returned, he plans to add Chris "Birdman" Andersen and Ray Allen to the its paint job.
