Man critical after trying to save dogs in Dania Beach mobile home fire

Man suffers burns going inside home, saves 1 dog

DANIA BEACH, Fla. ā€“ A man is in critical condition after trying to save his dogs as a fire broke out at his mobile home in Dania Beach, authorities say.

The fire happened around 7 p.m. Friday in the 5200 block of Southeast 22nd Terrace.

The man went back inside his home to try to save his two dogs.

Deputies said he grabbed one of the dogs, broke a window and threw him out, saving him.

The man went looking for the second dog, but he caught fire and broke another window to get out, deputies said.

Fire Rescue crews found him on the ground. Deputies said the second dog is currently unaccounted for.

Hollywood Fire Rescue helped put out the fire with Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue. Crews were reporting the fire was in the ceiling of the home and were dousing hot spots.

The man was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital Trauma Center in critical condition. Deputies said he was transported to Jackson Memorial's burn unit later Friday evening.

It's unknown what led to the fire.
