MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The daughter of a man who held her hostage inside a Miami Gardens home said she went inside the house thinking everything was great, until police arrived.
Franklin Bain, 49, was arrested after Tuesday's police standoff.
Police said Bain was wanted in connection with a sexual battery.
"He would not let me open (the door)," his daughter, Francis Bain, 22, told Local 10's Glenna Milberg in an exclusive interview. "He said, 'Do not open the door. Do not open the door.'"
She then sent a text message to her boyfriend that her father was holding her against her will inside the home.
Police tried to negotiate with Franklin Bain before the SWAT team used tear gas to force him out.
Francis Bain was eventually released, and her father was arrested after he ran out of the house.
"I wanted to be young and be owning my own home, and that's what I was trying to work on, and now I just got pushed back," Francis Bain said.
The college student said she feels responsible for her father now that he's in jail and she's left trying to figure out how to pay for the repairs to their home.
"I feel responsible because now that my father's gone, I have to step up and I have to take care of this," she said. "I have a lot of things on my shoulder. "
