Davie man dies following police chase

Police: Suspect experienced health issues once in custody

DAVIE, Fla. – Davie police are investigating after a man died following a police chase on Friday.

According to police, the suspect, identified by his fiance as 32-year-old William Reddix, had a revoked license and ran away from officers who tried to stop him in the 6100 block of 41st Street. Eventually, he was apprehended by a police K-9. According to officers, the dog bit Reddix, but it's unclear how many times or how severe the bites were.

Police said Reddix began to experience health issues once he was in custody. He was taken to Memorial Hospital Pembroke, where he died a short time later.

His fiance, Ally Dalton, who is pregnant with Reddix's child, told Local 10 News reporter Hatzel Vela that Reddix has had a history of problems with law enforcement. She said he had just been released from prison eight months ago for drug dealing, and was trying to get his life back together.

Dalton said cops were constantly harassing Reddix and promising him that he would be back in prison in no time.

Police said the case is still considered an active investigation. No officers have been placed on administrative leave following the incident.

The cause of death will be determined by the Broward County Medical Examiner's Office.
