Davie officers disciplined for parking in handicap spots

Officers 'should have used better judgment,' says department

DAVIE, Fla. – The Davie Police Department disciplined officers who parked their patrol cars in handicap spots last month while investigating a burglary.

The officers originally parked in the roadway but moved their cars because they were blocking traffic, according to a post on the department's Facebook page.

"In the weeks following this incident, the photo in question was forwarded to the Davie Police Department," read the post. "An investigation into the incident revealed that the officers involved, while investigating what they believed to be an in-progress felony, should have used better judgment and moved their vehicles to another area within the parking lot once the scene was deemed secure."

The officers involved received written and verbal counseling.
