DAVIE, Fla. -

A police officer who was involved in a crash Thursday afternoon is in stable condition, according to Davie police.

The crash happened in the 4800 block of Davie Road about 4:40 p.m.

Davie police said officers were driving northbound trying to stop a car. Authorities said the driver did not want to stop.

Another Davie officer was driving southbound to assist the first officer when police said the suspect hit and crashed into the southbound officer's car.

The officer was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in stable condition. Police said the driver of the fleeing car was pronounced dead.

A man and woman inside the car were transported to the hospital in critical condition.
