Davie residents in fear after woman's body found in bathtub

Family of Jill Su staying with friends

Jill Su was found dead in a bathtub at her Davie home Sept. 8.

DAVIE, Fla. – There was no answer at the door at the home where Jill Su was murdered Monday. A white car was in the driveway and someone was inside but they declined to answer a call from Local 10 News.

Three days after the 59-year-old wife and mother was killed in what appeared to be a break-in, Local 10 learned Su's husband, entomology professor Dr. Nan Yao Su, and grown son, Justin, are staying with friends in the area.

Davie police still pouring over hours of security video from the front gate of the West Ridge subdivision. Local 10 spoke to several neighbors in the community Thursday, many who knew the victim and said they are too afraid for their own safety to speak on camera.

"Obviously we live in a gated community, and it's kind of shocking, to be honest with you," said resident Trent Strafaci. "Until they catch the person who did this, I think everyone's a little scared, that's what I think."

"There's not a lot we can say about what's going on, and some of the information that we do have is sensitive," said a police officer.

Davie police said they are working to allay those fears, even though they still don't know who committed the murder, they said the neighborhood is safe, and here's why.

Police Capt. Dale Engle provided Local 10 with a record of all the calls for service in the community for this year; they're been about 35, but the vast majority were false burglar alarms.

"They're routine calls, but nothing of violence, not even a residential burglary, so whatever we can do, we'd like to put this community at ease and we're working to try to do that."
