It almost walked into US 1 on Saturday night, when it was saved by Deputy Joshua Gordon, who removed the bag.

The Monroe County Sheriff's Facebook page said that Gordon and the rest of the department could only wonder how long the deer was running around with the bag on its head.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Becky Herrin said she hopes the incident reminds visitors to properly dispose of trash.

Key deer are the smallest of the Virginia white-tailed deer subspecies, and are endangered.
