Detectives investigate deaths of 2 teens in Oakland Park

Nicole Franco, Amaya Cruz found dead blocks apart in span of 2 days

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – Broward Sheriff's Office homicide detectives continue to investigate after two teenagers were found dead blocks apart from each other in Oakland Park in a span of two days.

Nicole Franco, 19, and Amaya Cruz, 17, were identified Wednesday as the victims.

Franco was found dead in her apartment early Tuesday morning after deputies were called to a burglary at the Bridgewater Place complex, 2800 NW 44th St.

BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said Franco called 911 to report a burglary at her apartment, but she didn't give a precise address.

Deputies arrived at the complex and went door-to-door looking for evidence of a crime. Eventually they stumbled upon an open sliding-glass door at Franco's first-floor apartment and called out to her, but there was no response. Once inside, deputies found Franco's body.

The next morning, deputies were called to a medical emergency at 580 NW 41st St., BSO spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said.

When deputies arrived, they found Cruz dead at the scene.

Authorities haven't said how either teen died.
