FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The search continued Monday for a 14-year-old Fort Lauderdale girl who was last seen Friday morning.
Police divers searched the water behind the family's boat off Isle of Venice and dogs helped in the search for Shaina McBride on land.
A friend of the family told police Shaina left her family's boat to step outside for a few minutes and never returned. Shaina left her purse, phone charger and all her belongings on the boat.
The family told Local 10 News that she was on good terms with friends and family. They don't believe it's likely that she ran away.
"If we bring up anything or I have to think about it, I can't take it," said Shaina's father, David McBride. "You read about things, you hear about things like that but you never think it's going to happen to you, right? And particularly with me being what you could call an overbearing father, whatever you want to call that."
Neighbors and members of Shaina's church passed out fliers and went door to door around the teen's neighborhood on Sunday.
Fort Lauderdale police are also working to track Shaina's phone, according to her family.
"Let that child go on with her life, you know, and let her go," said David McBride.
Shaina is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 145 pounds. She has blond hair, green eyes and is most likely barefoot.
Anyone with any information on her whereabouts is asked to call Fort Lauderdale police at 954-764-HELP or local law enforcement.
