MIAMI – Miami-Dade County Animal Services rescued a dog last week that was found tethered inside a dirty vacant property in Miami, officials said.
Animal Services officials responded to the home at 1707 NW 68th Terrace July 16 and found a thin female bull terrier mix tied to the inside of the front door.
Officials said the dog, who they named Gigi, did not have access to food or water.
She was brought to the Miami-Dade County Animal Shelter for treatment by veterinarians.
Officials said they are investigating the case and are following up with the property owner.
"We are giving Gigi the treatment and attention she deserves and reaching out to adopters, foster parents and rescue organizations to help us find Gigi a permanent loving home and family," said Alex Muñoz, director of the Animal Services Department.
Gigi is 3 years old and weighs 50 pounds. Animal officials said she is in excellent health and is ready to be adopted.
"Our law states that pit-bull breeds and any bully breed must be available for adoption outside Dade County. That's our only restriction," Melissa Barreto of Miami-Dade Animal Services said.
Gigi's shelter identification number is A1711895.
Anyone interested in adopting her is asked to visit the Animal Services Shelter located at 7401 NW 74th St. in Medley. Adoption hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
