The Venezuelan community in Miami is honoring a lawmaker who has been a vocal opponent of the late Hugo Chavez and his hand-chosen predecessor, Nicolas Maduro.
Maria Corina Machado received a key to the City of Doral on Monday and is scheduled to deliver a speech at the University of Miami.
Machado ran in Venezuela's opposition primaries for the presidential election last year. She lost but became the national coordinator for candidate Henrique Capriles.
Capriles lost against Chavez in October and has rejected the result of an April 14 presidential election narrowly won by Maduro.
Machado recently underwent surgery on her nose, which she said was broken when political rivals threw her to the floor and kicked her in the face.
Many in Doral are strongly anti-Maduro.
