Doral's city council fired city manager during Monday's special meeting

Joe Carollo predicted his fate during Friday's new conference

DORAL, Fla. – Doral's city council gathered for a special meeting late Monday afternoon, where they fired city manager, Joe Carollo.

"There was an ambush," he said after the three-to-two vote.

Just last Friday, Carollo held a news conference where he predicted that he would soon be out of a job. According to him, someone on the council was already looking at possible replacements.

Carollo was tapped for the job as city manager by Mayor Luigi Boria almost a year ago, but almost immediately things went south between the two men. Specifically, after the city manager criticized the mayor about a real estate project once owned by Boria's children.

Carollo survived a vote last fall, but said he did not expect to make it out of this one.

The city has appointed the director of public works as interim city manager.
