DOT to move forward with 'Talking Cars' technology

Developments in new technology aim to slash motor vehicle fatalities by 80 percent

MIAMI – Officials from the Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C., have announced Monday they will be moving forward with requirements for new "Vehicle-2-Vehicle communication technology."

The technology essentially sends out radio waves to other cars and works much like Wi-Fi.

The cars send data back and forth to each other about their location and speeds, and then vehicles automatically stop when they get too close to one another.

The hope is that developments in this new technology will slash motor vehicle fatalities by 80 percent.
